Risk to the Bridgwater & Taunton canal

The future of the Bridgwater & Taunton canal running through Creech St Michael is at risk if HM Treasury proposals to the Government are accepted.

You able to voice your concern by signing the online petition here:http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/protectourcanals/

HM Treasury has submitted proposals to Government to sell the property assets of British Waterways to help to reduce the Government borrowings caused by the generous funding provided to save inept investment banking.   A large part of the maintenance funding for our canals comes from the income generated by property rents.

Waterways such as the Bridgwater & Taunton canal would be the greatest losers if this sell off takes place.

Almost all of the funding required to keep our local waterway open for walkers, cyclists, anglers and boaters comes from British Waterways property income with a local injection of funding from Somerset County Council.

If you value the canal running through Creech St Michael please add your name to the online petition and help to SAVE OUR WATERWAYS.
