Planning Application for the Centre of Creech St Michael

Article received from Mr D Garrett of Creech St Michael
July 10th 2007

An outline planning application has been submitted to Taunton Deane Planning Office for the Redevelopment of Creech Motors Site in the centre of the village.

This would involve demolishing all existing business buildings on the site, and building 2 Retail Units, and 13 Dwellings.

This has caused considerable concern among residents as it is commonly felt the present four well established businesses would be lost, along with the nine employed at them.

Many villagers feel this would be an overdevelopment, of the wrong type of buildings for the centre of the village, which would front directly onto the pavement in St Michaels Road, and overshadow the present houses at the rear of the site.

Safety Issues have also been mentioned with regard, to the proposed access road, rights of way, insufficient parking, waste disposal, and the present crossing for school children, and pedestrians.

It has also been stated that this application also goes against the recommendations of The Taunton Deane Local Plan (2004) for future development in the village.

Anyone wishing to view the details of this proposed redevelopment of the Creech Motors Site, can see the plans, which include comments already posted, or send in their views. These are published on the Taunton Deane Planning Application website: www.tauntondeane.gov.uk/tdbcsites/plan/PlAppDets.asp?Applno=14/2007/028

The Planning Application Number is 14/2007/028
