NEW CHAIRMAN FOR CREECH ST MICHAEL RECREATION FIELD MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
At the Annual General Meeting July 2007, Brian Rowlinson stood down as Chairman for health reasons, but will stay on as Vice Chairman. Brian thanked everyone for their support during the last few years and for helping with fund-raising activities. Paul Chandler was appointed Chairman, and Bill Durman will again be Treasurer.
Other members elected are:

- Annette Messenger
- Adrian Birch
- Andy Armstrong
Members representing local organizations are:
- Gerry Willis (Taunton Model Engineers)
- Simon and Kim Cooper (Local Action Team)
- Tom Carter (Creech St Michael Parish Council).
A new Children’s Play area, Pump Track and Skate Board Park are at the planning stage but in the meantime the Committee has refurbished the existing play area so that children may continue to use the facilities.
The Committee’s Working Party pitched in and carried out the work themselves, repairing the wooden play equipment and fencing, removing weeds and topping up the bark. It was reported that this was hard work but fun, that the weather was lovely and there was a feeling of a great community spirit. Children started using the equipment the following day.
A spectacular fund-raising event is being planned for 31st May 2008. The popular group RACEY has been booked for the evening and daytime fun will include tug of war, lawn mower racing, and train rides with hot and cold refreshments being served all day.
I am coming to the end of six months acting as temporary secretary for the Recreation Field Committee and during this time I have witnessed a transformation, with several new members joining, the formation of an active Working Party, the refurbishment of the play area and plans coming along for a Pump Track (for mountain bikers), skate board park, and new play facilities.
I regret that other commitments prevent me from continuing but I am pleased to report that Sam Smith will be taking over at our next meeting which is on 20 August at 7pm at the Pavilion, Hyde Lane.
The Committee would love to hear of any ideas Parishioners might have for the bumper May 2008 summer event or the Recreation Field’s development – all are welcome at meetings.
