The weekend of 28th April 2012 saw the annual twinning exchange when our friends from the Vallée d’Auge visited Creech St Michael.

On the Sunday, an afternoon of games at the Village Hall was followed by a dinner provided by members of the Association. Particular thanks go to Sue Cavill, Rose Fisher, Joan Payne and Val Coakes for organising the whole meal.

After the meal, there was dancing to music by the Bridgwater Country Dance Band.

On the following day all members visited Bristol Blue Glass (South-West) and saw a demonstration of glass blowing and modelling. After lunch, at Cheddar Garden Centre, members and guests visited Cox’s cave, the museum, had the opportunity of climbing Jacob’s ladder and visiting Cheddar Village, and enjoyed a cream tea on the terrace at the Caves.

A thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had by all despite the appalling weather.

Our next event is on 17^th June when we have a garden party at Dave and Anna Caddy’s.

Ann Lock was the inspiration and driving force behind the Creech village hall which opened in 1988.

Ann worked very hard to turn an idea into reality, persuading many people that Creech deserved its own village hall.

The Creech Hall of Fame recognises local people who have made a difference to Creech St Michael. It helps ensure that the outstanding contributions made by individuals are recorded for posterity.

Ann Lock tells her story in the Hall of Fame about her life in Creech and the work she did to inspire and persuade people that Creech needed a new village hall.

Photos of the fundraising activities and the building of the new hall can also be seen in the Village Hall in the Gallery.

The village hall is used by many organisations and hundreds of people every year and is such a valuable facility for Creech St Michael.

The Pasta and Politics event scheduled for 11th of May at the village hall has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organisers’ control.

Imogen Mansfield an aspiring young ballet dancer from Creech has gained a place to perform a full length professional ballet Giselle with The English Youth Company.

She was cast in a main role and is enjoying the challenge of working with such a professional and outstanding company.

She was thrilled also to be offered sponsorship by local Funeral Directors Nigel K Ford.

Nigel who has run his business next door to Imogen’s home for many years is delighted to support local talent.

Nigel Ford said ”I am pleased to support Imogen as an up and coming young local talent. She clearly works hard and is devoted to her aspiration to be a successful dancer.  I wish her lots of luck with Giselle and the future“.

Creech St Michael experienced almost non-stop torrential rain from mid-day Saturday 28th April through to 10am Tuesday 1st May.

The roads to Ham and Ruishton were impassable with the flood water 3 to 4 feet deep where the old Chard Canal crosses the road to Ruishton.

Creech St Michael Village Hall committee announce that they will be holding their AGM in the Village Hall at 7.00pm on Friday the 18th of May 2012.

Do come along – your views and ideas would be most appreciated.

At the annual parish meeting on Friday the 20^th of April 2012 the plans for the recreation field were on display.

It seems a very exciting development and while there are a few more hurdles to overcome, if the project does turn into reality the new facilities will be the envy of surrounding parishes.

The field will be transformed by moving the football pitch northwards, still with an East/West orientation.  This will allow the construction of three activity areas in front and to the West of the pavilion.  One for toddlers, an adventure area for juniors and seniors with the final place designated as a Multi User Games Area (MUGA).

The area for toddlers will be fenced in with a variety of things for supervised play.

The next area will be full of frames, swings and other apparatus to engage the junior and senior children.

The MUGA is for all age ranges in the parish. From the drawings it looks like it can be marked out for basketball and five aside football pitches.  It may even be for other sports.

I am not sure of the technicalities but I certainly hope that the PC will pull out all the stops to ensure that our current forlorn looking playing field is turned into a wonderful amenity that every parishioner can be proud of.

All of the above is in addition to the ‘teen’ shelter which is already in place.

It is hoped that the whole community of Creech St Michael will support the Parish Council in achieving what has been a long time ambition.

The Community Council for Somerset is looking to appoint Village Agents to support Parish ‘Clusters’ in Somerset.

A Village Agent is required to represent the Parish Cluster of:  Creech St Michael, Ruishton, Thornfalcon and West Monkton.

The position is paid for 8 hours per week. Full details can be found on the Village Agent Flyer.
