I am told by Taunton Heritage centre that you have the plans for the St Michaels graveyard @ Creech. I am looking for my Grand-mothers grave site, can you help please. Rita, Somerset |

I still haven't any information as to whether you keep the records of the graves? I have asked at the heritage centre and they think they are at the church. Rita Cassidy

Hello Rita,
I am new to the publicity post so am not sure of how much information we have in our archives.
Can I ask who your grandmother was and do you have family details.
We do have an un-validated copy of the parish register(it may not be complete). This contains Births/Baptisms, Marriages and burials but the date ranges may too early for your grandmother.
We shall make some enquiries and will respond on the website once we have any details. Meanwhile perhaps another village resident will see your posting and also be able to answer your question.
Regards

The transcribed registers of the Anglican church used to be online - where have they gone? Will be visiting Taunton in June-July. Is it possible to see the registers at the church? Carolyn Appelbe, Australia |

Eric,
Many thanks for your effort to look for the birth record for Charles Bell. I have found Charles in the 1841 and 1851Census living in Cardiff. Please let me know if you find anything in the church records in the future.
Best regards John

John,
I have checked the limited register I have and the only mention of the name BELL is to record a birth/baptism in 1836 of Helen, daughter of John and Helen BELL.
I have also checked the untested 1851 census for Creech, there are no BELL's mentioned.
I hope to record the church records but this may take some time.
Regards

My Great Great Grandfather Charles Bell was born in Creech St Michael around 1827 so I would be really interested to see the spreadsheet. Could you send a me a copy by e mail or let me know if his name and his parents names appear in the spreadsheet.
Best regards

I have just obtained a spreadsheet with a list of Births, marriages and deaths in the village. The transcription dated pre 1837. I have no way of testing the validity of the data but I do know the source was a diligent researcher. I assume that the detail either comes from the church, or more likely from the local records office. If you have any names you are interested in I may be able to complement your search in the summer.

Hi Carolyn,
On the parish church page on this website you will see that the registers have been transcribed and seem to held at the Somerset Records Office http://www1.somerset.gov.uk/archives/ASP/parish.htm. This new centre suggests that if you plan a visit you can make an appointment with them. I do not know if they plan to post them online. The church is about to have a new vicar installed (if that is the word) but I may approach one of the church wardens for more information. The church is generally open and will be worth a visit.
Kind regards
Eric Chown - Creech Web publicity officer
