Information on John Bobbett? |
|
2010-11-08 09:24:34 |
Trying to trace ancestors from Creech. Does anyone have any information on John Bobbett (c1851) who married Emma (Emily) Jane Snook . The 1881 census says Emma (23) was working as a rag cutter at the paper mill. A few years later they moved to Wales. Any information would be gratefully received. I am also interested in finding the name of the local paper for Creech at this time and whether copies still exist. Sarah Ward, Salisbury |

Thank you Nigel. Yes I have borrowed a copy from the library, as I saw it mentioned elsewhere on this site. Very interesting and I'd love to be able to trace back to the Bobbetts mentioned in the book. However, I am having trouble finding the correct parentage of John 1851, as there seems to be more than one from neighbouring parishes of the same age. It is possible he was born in Lyng and moved to Creech when he married. Do you know of any connections between Bobbetts from Lyng and those from Creech?

Sarah, There is very interesting information on the Bobbetts in June Small's excellent book of Creech St Michael 2000, so it's important I give the credit to June.
In 1740 there was a John Bobbett and his daughter Joan who lived at what was then the Ship Inn, Bull Street, in front of what was recently the Riverside Inn which closed c2008. This particular John Bobbett won't be the one you're referring to (c1851) who married Emma (if he did then he was doing quite well for his age).
The Bobbetts used to live at Cathill Farm. William Bobbet used to farm there in 1894 and was one of the first parish councillors (courtesy June Small). Nigel Finch, Langaller

2010-11-01 14:15:29 |
I am trying to locate a pal of mine, we were in the fire & rescue service together, his name is Stephen Bullion. His father was once the CFO, of Somerset F & R, his mother used to live in the same village also. We were and still are, good pals but lost touch when we moved. Many thanks Martin, Lincoln |
