We all know that there are problems in most areas that can affect us all everyday. These problems can range from nuisances such as litter, parking or antisocial behaviour.
How can they be resolved?
Community problems are being addressed at the moment. However, no one single agency or group of people can deal with the issues alone or promote solutions. The idea is to create Local Action Teams (LATs).
LATs are a part of a government initiative to bring together local people, agencies such as the Police and Borough Council, local organisations and voluntary groups to operate at a local level promoting practical and local solutions to the problems. A Monkton and Creech District Local Action Team has been formally created. The Chairperson is Kim Cooper, the Treasurer is Ray Tully, and secretary, for the time being, Jane Williams. There are several committee members including 4 parish councillors from Creech St Michael. A constitution has been drawn up setting out the rules for your parish.
An LAT can apply for various funds as an accredited body. Funding will be more available as an LAT than as a single resident or the Police alone. The Monkton and Creech District Local Action Team will have it’s own bank account.
Monthly meetings will be held, alternately in West Monkton Village Hall and Creech St Michael Village Hall. Members of both parishes are welcome to attend the monthly meetings and put forward their views allowing input from all involved to create action plans for problems in your area.
