Local Action Team

Monkton Heathfield, Creech St Michael

As a local resident of Monkton Heathfield, Creech St Michael and surrounding areas you may be affected by problems in the area that are frequently occurring such as parking, youths gathering, nuisance mopeds or littering. A local Action Team (LAT) is a government initiative to obtain answers and address issues. It is a community and multi agency partnership, all of whom must actively participate.

Local Action Team- What is it?

A LAT is a voluntary group that could include residents, youths, businesses, schools and others such as the Police, Ambulance, Council, Youth Service, etc. The LAT can look at the problems, act as a contact point and help to produce a solution.

How can a LAT work for you?

If you see a problem in the area such as littering, the LAT could give a combined voice to raise the issue to provide a link to the appropriate agency and work towards a solution.

Why introduce an LAT?

Sometimes people are not always sure who to go to if they have a problem for example not enough parking. The LAT could provide the link to the right person about a problem which other residents are also affected with.

Resolving problems can cost money – Where will the funding come from?

An LAT can apply for various funds as an accredited body. Funding will be more available as a LAT than as a single resident or the Police alone. The Monkton and Creech LAT already has its own bank account.

How will the meetings work?

A Chairperson will chair the meetings and a Secretary will take the minutes. People could attend the meeting and put forward their views allowing input from all involved to create action plans for problems in Monkton Heathfield, Creech St Michael and surrounding areas. There will be a Treasurer to look after the funding. A Constitution has already been drawn setting the rules of how the LAT will work.

Where and when would the meetings take place?

Meetings are currently held once a month. They alternate between the Village Halls of Monkton Heathfield and Creech St Michael. The meetings can be as often as required but it would be necessary to have an annual general meeting. The Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer could meet to review the progress of action plans between meetings.
