  1. Contacting Paul & Sandra Forbes-Harper

    February 1, 2010
  2. This is the nearest I can get to contacting PAUL & SANDRA FORBES-HARPER!!  They may have been the friends that wrote to Bill and Blanche Mangan (my husband John’s parents) who lived in Plymouth.  We would love to have contact with them.  Would you please pass this on to them if they are still with your church and ask them to let us know if we are on the right track?

Thank you.  (John and I moved from Kent to Spain in 2007).

    Maggie, Spain

  3. Writing a book about the Second World War defences

    January 28, 2010
  4. I am writing a book about the Second World War defences (pillboxes etc.) of the Taunton Stop Line of 1940 – expanded at Creech St Michael to form an Anti-Tank Island in 1941. Does anyone have contemporary photos I could use, or memories from those times – especially from anyone in the Home Guard or involved in the construction? All photos, memories, etc. will be duly credited. Thanks.

  9. Information on my great grandfather John Marks?

    November 20, 2009
  10. My great grandfather John Marks died in Creech on May 9 1899 aged 59 years.  I believe he was probably buried  in the churchyard there. I was wondering whether there is a gravestone for him and also if anyone knew of any information regarding the Mark’s family.  His son, my grandfather was also called John Marks and was the village Blacksmith in Romsey in Hampshire during the First World War.  I believe that either he or his son at one time might have owned the Bell Inn. My grandfather in Romsey, besides being the Blacksmith also owned a public house.

  11. Information on my father?

    November 2, 2009
  12. My father who lived in London with his 22 siblings, spent awhile convalescing in Creech St Michael after an operation on his neck in about 1914 – this date is only a rough calculation from my own scant knowledge. He was about 14ish! Does anyone have any information please about who he would have stayed with & how this stay would all have come about? Was it something which would have been arranged through the church given that he came from such an underprivileged family & since his mother died when he was 4 years old.

    Many thanks, Cherry Howard
