With reference to your appeal in the Home Guard section of the Creech St Michael website regarding a rumour that there was a pill box containing enough explosives to blow up the village. The war diary of my father’s unit, the 224th Field Company R.E. has a brief note stating that “31 . 07 . 1941 Destruction of mines completed at Creech St. Michael. These mines were stored in a shed which was 9” deep in water during the winter. This was criminal folly on some ones part ” This may explain the reference.
Unfortunately my father is no longer alive to confirm this
