I am doing some research for a friend and need to find out if there was a coach builder/ carpenter in Creech around the turn of the century. I have the name E Bishop and have established that there was an Ernest Bishop, born in Durston 1868/9 moved to Creech St Michael before the 1901 census. any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Anthony,
As it happens I was standing in the creech churchyard (I am up dating the records) and was within 5 metres of the Mayled grave when your message appeared on the website. The inscription on the ornate headstone basically states that Amelia wife of Thomas MAYLED of this parish, died 19th Aug 1885 aged 65. And her husband Thomas Mayled, died 27 Jan 1887 aged 72. This means that they both should appear on the 1881census and those of previous years, which may give their children.
Their are a few MADDOCK graves also in the churchyard. Whether any of this fits into your tree only you can tell.
There are five Mayled’s, which is not a common name, in the local telephone directory.
I hope this helps, family history will often have gaps that we can seldom fill.
Regards

A cousin of my gg father(Charles Mayled born in 1848) was Henry David Mayled whe was the son of Amelia and Thomas Mayled of Creech St Michael) Like his father Henry David was a stone mason and probably followed his cousins to South East Wales. He was living in the parish of Mynyddislwyn,Newport. According to the 1891 census he was 36. His wife was Sarah who was a Maddock fron=m Creech St Michael. Also at the same time Henry David’s brother – Jessie lived in the same area. You mentioned that he died in 1945. I have often wondered what happened to this other welsh connection.
