How do I book the new solar powered canal boat?

June 14, 2010

Can anyone tell me how I find out about how to book the new solar powered canal boat?

  1. Two solar powered boats have recently been visiting the Bridgwater & Taunton canal. Both boats are owned and demonstrated by me and my fellow members of the Electric Boat Association. “Solar Flair III” is an experimental platform developed as part of our purely amateur plans for the use of Photovoltaic technology for boating and water transport. “Collinda” was built and fitted by the Moss Solar Trust to prove the viability of solar collection to power a boat and was the first boat to cross the English Channel entirely under solar power.

Unfortunately neither boat can be chartered as they are not licenced or insured to carry passengers though we do offer rides to anyone who gets into conversation with us when we are on the waterways. There is a new electrically propelled boat running from Creech St Michael which is owned and operated by Somerset Waterways Development Trust. Details can be found on the Trust website: http://www.swdt.org.uk
